Sunny HDRI

  • 67 published HDRIs at HDRI Hub carry the sunny tag, priced $8 to $99.
  • Resolutions run from 6144x3072 up to 16000x8000 pixels.
  • At a 45 degree sun elevation, a shadow equals the height of the object casting it; at 10 degrees, the shadow stretches to more than 5 times that height.
  • An unclipped HDRI preserves the sun's real brightness, which produces a sharp, correctly scaled shadow instead of a flat white disc.

67 published HDRIs at HDRI Hub carry the sunny tag, priced $8 to $99, at resolutions from 6144x3072 to 16000x8000. Each shows direct sunlight with a visible sun disc and a hard shadow, so the sun's height in the panorama sets both the shadow length and its direction. They suit exterior renders where the shadow pattern is part of the composition.

What is in this collection

HDRI Hub lists 67 published sunny HDRIs, priced $8 to $99, at resolutions from 6144x3072 to 16000x8000. Examples include HDR 106 Dawn, with a low morning sun; HDR 013 Harbor 1, a harbor scene under direct light; and HDR 019 Forest 1, a forest clearing with dappled sunlight.

When to use sunny HDRIs

  • Exterior renders where a hard shadow across the facade or ground plane is part of the composition.
  • Shadow studies for a specific time of day, using the sun's height in the file as a reference.
  • Reflections on glass, water, or metal that need one bright, defined light source.
  • Renders that pair the HDRI with a matching sun and sky system for a stronger directional highlight.

Rendering notes

Shadow length depends on the sun's elevation angle: at 45 degrees a shadow equals the object's height, and it grows past 5 times that height once the sun drops to around 10 degrees, as at early morning or late afternoon. An unclipped sunny HDRI keeps the sun's actual brightness in the file rather than clipping it to white, so shadows stay sharp and correctly scaled instead of soft-edged. Rotate the file on its vertical axis to move the sun's direction without changing the elevation baked into that file.
