Free HDRI skyboxes for Enscape
- HDRI Hub offers 11 free HDRIs, up to 8192x4096. They are older sets, which ship as Radiance .hdr.
- The free HDRIs carry the same licence as paid files: commercial use for one user and one workstation.
- Each free HDRI is ordered at zero cost from its product page, then downloaded like a paid order.
- Enscape 4.13 loads the .hdr file as a skybox through Visual Settings > Sky > Horizon Source: Skybox. Enscape 4.18 LTS and earlier do not read .exr; 4.19 and later do.
HDRI Hub's 11 free HDRIs work in Enscape the same way as the paid outdoor set. Order them at no cost from their product pages, then load one as a skybox to test lighting, reflections and shadow direction before buying a higher-resolution environment.

What the free HDRIs are
HDRI Hub publishes 11 free HDRIs at resolutions up to 8192x4096, delivered as Radiance .hdr, because the free sets are older skies (HDRI Hub switched to .exr from HDR 142 onwards). The product page lists the format of each file. The licence is the same as the paid catalogue: commercial use for one user and one workstation, ordered at zero cost directly from each product page.
Load one in Enscape
- Order the free HDRI from its product page and download the .hdr file. Enscape 4.18 LTS and earlier read only .hdr; 4.19 and later also read .exr.
- In Enscape, open Visual Settings > Sky and set Horizon Source to Skybox.
- Load the file, set Rotation to align the sun, and enable "Brightest Point as Sun Direction" if the sky has a visible sun disc.
- Use the Brightness slider and "Normalize the average brightness" option to balance exposure.
If a download ever contains only an .exr and you use Enscape 4.18 LTS or earlier, convert it once to .hdr in Photoshop, Affinity Photo or Blender; all three keep the full range. For the full walkthrough see the Enscape HDRI skybox guide.

The free files sit at a lower resolution than the paid catalogue, so they suit interior lighting tests and early layout checks more than a sky visible directly behind a building.
