What is in this collection

HDRI Hub lists 35 published city and urban HDRIs, priced $8 to $20, at resolutions from 10000x5000 to 14336x7168. Examples include HDR 103 Parking Space, an open parking lot; HDR 023 Alley, a narrow urban alley; and HDR 050 Old Freight Yard, an industrial yard setting.

When to use city HDRIs

  • Reflections on glass towers or car paint that need visible urban surroundings, not a blank sky.
  • Context shots for a building render placed in an urban site.
  • Material studies where concrete, asphalt, or brick surfaces in the HDRI inform the color of bounced light.
  • Establishing an urban mood without modeling surrounding buildings in the 3D scene.

Rendering notes

Urban HDRIs carry more visual detail near the horizon than open landscape files, so keep the HDRI resolution high when it appears directly in reflections on glass or polished metal, since a low-resolution map will look blurry up close. Rotate the HDRI to align a recognizable feature, such as a building line or road, with the direction the camera is facing for a more convincing reflection. Several of these files also carry the road or street tag, so check the tag list on each product page for a closer match to the scene.
