In this basic tutorial we will show you how you can match 3d camera to a photographic backplate image using 3d Studio Max to realistically integrate your own 3d models.

First create a scene.

TUT_Perspektive_01

Than create a dome light and put a VRay HDRI in. Make it invisible and copy your VRay HDRI in your material editor as an instance.

TUT_Perspektive_02

Load your HDR and change mapping type on spherical. Then press ALT + B to use your environment as background.

TUT_Perspektive_03

Press 8 to load your Backplate as an bitmap. Copy the bitmap in your material editor. Set the mapping mode of your bitmap to screen.

TUT_Perspektive_04

Disable targeted on your camera to convert to free camera. (Perspektive Match doesn´t work with targeted cameras)

Select your camera and move in. Now enable 2D Pan Zoom Mode and click Utilities Perspektive Match.

TUT_Perspektive_05

Click Show Vanishing Lines. With these lines you set up your camera to right focus.

The blue lines are for the high. The red lines for the horizon and the green lines are the depth.

TUT_Perspektive_06

Set up the lines to your Backplate.

TUT_Perspektive_07a

Now disable vanishing lines and 2D Pan Zoom. Set up your camera in the right position.

At least copy your backplate size in your output size and lock image aspect value. Now you can set up your render size and quality

TUT_Perspektive_08

Now have fun and a good time.

About

HDRI-Hubs main goal is to provide you with super high resolution hdri images and architectural textures.
Often textures you find in the internet are way too small for really close up work, so we like to produce them in this outstanding quality.

Most of our textures are at least 4096x4096px large or even bigger and the hdri environments are around 10240x5120px. On custom request many of the skies can be reproduced at even larger resolution.
